Research & Development for Theatre Alibi’s production based on the stories of st thomas
23rd February 2022
From the 21st – 23rd February Emmanuel Hall was bustling with creativity for the R&D of our upcoming production based on the stories of St Thomas we’ve heard over the past three years which will form part of the Festival of St Thomas Stories.
The week was spent imaginatively exploring how to breathe life to the script. The team played with elements such as live-recording the sound of water and using loop pedals to create a rich tapestry of sound, experimenting with how to use the space in Emmanuel Hall where the performance is taking place, music improvisations, editing and cutting aspects of the script, and wandering about St Thomas itself to get a sense of where the stories have come from…
We were joined by the theatre designer Ioana Curelea, Composer and Performer Lizzy Westcott, Performers Michael Wagg, Winnie Arhin, Steve Bennett, Lighting Designer Marcus Bartlett, Sound Designer Somatic (Somin Griffin-Dave), the writer Daniel Jamieson and our Artistic Director Nikki Sved.
All in all, it was an invigorating week, helping the team get a sense of the world they’re creating and stirred up lots of dynamic ideas for this new production which will be performed this summer from the 1st July – 10th July.
