Fifteen year old Nell Trent lives with her grandpa in a vintage record shop called
The Curiosity Shop. When The Curiosity Shop is repossessed by a malignant loan shark named Quilp, Nell and Grandpa are forced to hit the road. Living rough they meet the usual suspects – con-men, Good Samaritans, wide boys, buskers – on the street, in pubs,
in burger bars, at a festival – in cities and villages across England.
Translated from Victorian times to the present day, this story of love, broken dreams, kindness, human frailty and doggone wickedness has a fabulous cast of characters, from bent lawyer Sally Brass to wide boy rapper Dick E. Swiveller. Playfully staged, with projection and a soundtrack that takes in hits from Elvis Presley to Professor Green, Curiosity Shop shows Britain to be as much a cultural curiosity shop as it ever was in Dickens’ day….
